Do Wars Really End?

Mezzo Soprano with Handbell and Electronics
Composed: 2022/2023    Premiered: 2023

Inspired by my fascination with history, this collection of songs uses poetry from different perspectives during World War I. The text comes from philosophers, poets, and even a soldier serving in the war. These songs combine the use of handbell and pre-recorded electronic sounds with a mezzo soprano voice to create a sonic environment of mourning and melancholy as it relates to tragedy that comes with war.

Short Pieces from a Brooklyn Apartment

Trumpet with Electronics
Composed: 2022/2023    Premiered: 2023

This collection of pieces, written for a trumpet and different electronics, was written through my exploration of using electronics along with my trumpet. It includes the use of pre-recorded synthesizer sounds, a looper pedal, and the modifying of the trumpet through different guitar effect pedals. The premise behind the composition was that it was something that I could play by myself in my apartment.

Synesthetic Ghosts

Reed Quintet
Composed: 2022

Inspired by the art of Wassily Kandinsky and his intrigue toward the condition of synesthesia, this piece looks to replicate the experience of walking through an art gallery and appreciating different pieces of art, while also comparing them to the previous art pieces viewed. This piece combines written music and guided improvisation with a visual score to help give the performers a sense of synesthetic thoughts.
