Biography
Jason Callaghan is a Southern California based composer and trumpet player. He has written for multiple types of ensembles from solo and chamber works to larger ensemble pieces. He has a Master of Music in Composition from Mannes School of Music at the New School and a Bachelor of Music with a focus in Composition from California State University, Fullerton. Jason has enjoyed multiple premieres of his pieces by collegiate players and ensembles. His style seeks to blend his classical training with the sounds of rock, pop, and other genres which he is so fond of. Jason is also a freelance trumpet player who gigs part time. As a trumpet player, Jason has played for the Disneyland Resort, multiple churches, and more. He is experienced in classical, contemporary, and pop, amongst other genres. Jason is also experienced with the use of electronics with the trumpet. Jason's list of teachers include Ken Walicki (Composition), Joan La Barbara (Composition), Tim Hall (Trumpet), and Dave Pittel (Trumpet). Currently, Jason is part of the adjunct faculty at California State University Fullerton, teaching Music Theory and Composition. Outside of music, Jason enjoys being a photographer*, spending time with friends, and adding to his enormous collection of socks.
